Generosity At The Auction

On Friday evening our Ward YW and YM organizations held a fundraiser to help girls earn money for girls camp and the boys earn money for their outings. They sponsored a pot luck dinner and a service auction. Besides services being auctioned off, we were able to take food items to be auctioned off as well. I decided to make some of those delicious red velvet cake balls (thanks, Heather for the recipe). Who would have thought that one dozen of those balls would go for $40, and another dozen went for $35. Our Ward members were very generous in spite of the poor economy.

I also made four loaves of whole wheat bread which each sold for around $20. If I could always get those prices for these goods, I'd go into business for myself.

Alan did his part by auctioning off a service. He offered a teeth whitening session worth about $250, which went for $75.
At final count, the amount of funds raised was around $1,700, which is amazing to me but part of the reason for that is because the Bishop (who is a dentist) found out that a member who had already maxed out on his dental insurance for this year needed a crown and offered that up for auction. It went for $500. It was a fun activity.

Being Grandparents

Being a grandparent is the best! Eric's family was here for a week and it was fun to get to know them a little better and do fun things together.

Ethan and Ella found some wigs in the attic and thought it was fun to play around with them.

The little girl on the left is not one of our grandchildren, but the other three are.

Ethan playing a spelling game on my computer.

Ella playing with my guitar. Maybe some day she will learn how to play it.

One thing we always like to do when they are in town is to go to Apollo Park. It is such a nice park with several play grounds, ducks, geese, and small lake.

Ethan and Ella like feeding the ducks and geese. The geese can get pretty agressive when they know you have food so Ethan and Ella always head for the safety of the picnic tables when dispensing the food.

Speaking of ducks, this one really fits the part of The Ugly Duckling. This is the ugliest duck I've ever seen. It is really deformed and unhealthy looking. Poor thing was barely able to walk. The tumorous growth on the head probably prevents it from seeing well, if at all.

Ethan and Ella always love spending a lot of time playing at the different playgrounds.

I love this picture of Grandpa helping Ella down from a high portion of the apparatus.

I sure do wish my grandchildren lived closer so we could have more outings together. Wishing isn't always getting, so until then, we will just cherish the times we do get to spend together.
