I don't want to mislead with this title because my grandchildren were not on an official spring break from school when they came here for a Disneyland/Lancaster visit a couple of weeks ago (they don't even get a spring break), but many students are on spring break this time of year. With that said, I will continue my post with pictures from an outing I had with the kids.
I have taken the kids to Apollo Park before, so that wasn't a novel idea. However, this time we had a picnic lunch consisting of pizza and crazy bread with donut holes for dessert. Because it was kind of windy (normal for Apollo Park), and the kids were afraid of the ducks who like to chase after people for food, we opted to eat in the car. I opened up the back of the car and the girls sat inside while we ate. I wish I would have remembered to take a photo of that....but alas, I was not thinking ahead so no pic. But it was a lot of fun. At least I did take pictures of them at the playground.
After we ate and played for a while, we drove over to the Exotic Breeding Feline Compound (aka the Cat Compound) in Rosamond. Even though we have lived in Lancaster for 33 years and the Cat Compound is only about 30 miles away, I had never been there before. That is kind of a shame because it is a very nice jewel in this desert.
The compound isn't huge. It is roughly set up like a zoo, but of course they only have cats to look at. Fortunately, real hot weather hadn't arrived yet so most of the animals were out and about.

Since I am a BYU fan, I really liked the Cougar (Mountain Lion).
This Leopard was beautiful.
I feel sorry for all the cats, but especially the Black Panthers when temperatures reach over 100 degrees during our hot summers.
Here is a Snow Leopard. They are very rare. There are only about 6,000 left in the wild. They are hunted for their fur and organs to be used in traditional Chinese medicines. Very sad! I love the Snow Leopards!
Livi loved the Snow Leopards too, so I bought her one from the gift shop to take home. Can you tell she likes it?
One cool thing is that they have several Peacock's roaming around the compound. I wish we could have seen them spread their feathers, but we weren't that fortunate.
On the way home, we decided to take a detour and exit the freeway at Ave. G in order to go down the "musical road." This is always a hit....so much so that we had to do it twice.
All in all, this was a very fun day.
