For the past two years (plus 3 months) Alan and I have had the privilege of serving as Church Service Missionaries with the BYU-Idaho Pathway Program. It has been a true joy to be involved with the Pathway Program. We have seen students who never thought they would ever have an opportunity to get a college degree start on a path in that direction. We have witnessed students who had no confidence in their ability to be a student again after such a long absence build up their courage, work hard, turn to the Lord, and they have prospered. They even got A's in their courses. Pathway is amazing...not only because it gets you on a path to a degree, but also because it is a huge testimony and confidence builder. Our testimonies have grown from serving as missionaries. I am very grateful that we have had that opportunity.
It was with great sadness that we had to remove our missionary tags. We actually had to forfeit them a week early. Due to the fact that the new Pathway Missionaries taking our place, Don & Laurel Storrs, are still waiting for their tags to arrive. Realizing that it was more important for them to have tags than us, we took our tags and changed the name from Stott to Storrs by printing a label to put over our names. You can hardly tell, right?
We are going to miss being missionaries, but we know that God has something else in store for us right now. As a matter of fact, I already received a calling last Sunday (Sept. 13th)...that of Gospel Doctrine teacher in our Ward -- GULP!!! My biggest fear has been realized!!! So I guess everything else is downhill from here, right? I won't start teaching for a couple more weeks because Alan and I have been asked to teach a class at our Stake Women's Conference this weekend and I have been putting in WAY too many hours on that class, so the Bishop said I could put off teaching Gospel Doctrine until after the Conference is over. Phew! I can't concentrate on too many things at once or my mind goes to mush! I hope that the Lord will qualify me for this calling as I feel very unqualified to teach other adults in the class who know much more than I do about the scriptures and the gospel.
