Exotic Feline Breeding Compound

Back in May, I had a post talking about our May Year of Dates date to the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Mojave. Last weekend, Alan and I had the chance to cash in on that date. Unfortunately, Southern California had been going through a heat wave and the temperature that day was over 100 degrees, but that didn't stop us from going. We went on the "Twilight Tour" which costs more, but it is in the evening after it starts to cool down and the cats are more active. On the twilight tour, you are allowed to go to areas that are off limits on the regular tour. I have been on the regular tour before and this was MUCH BETTER!

They don't have all large cats there...only the ones that are solitary. Probably my favorite large cat is the Cougar (Mountain Lion), but this cat was very elusive that night. I saw him for only a split second before he disappeared back into the enclosed area, so no good pictures of him.

The tigers were probably my favorite to watch that night. One particular juvenile was very active and playful with a cardboard box. I took lots of videos, but they didn't turn out well because of the position of the sun.

I found it interesting that they gave some of the cats a big block of ice with chicken parts and other types of meat.  I think this was for two reasons: 1) it was a nice treat for the cat and 2) it was like a giant popsicle to help keep them cool in this heat. This was the playful juvenile I spoke of earlier licking his chicken popsicle.

This was the biggest cat in the park. We were able to get very close to him. Thank goodness he was in a cage.

Not a great picture, but this is one of the leopards.

It is not only cats they had there. This peacock and the mother & baby peacock pictured below are also residents.

We enjoyed our date a lot. We were glad that the cats were active so we could enjoy watching them.

Only One More Week!!!

By looking at the title of this post, can you tell I am getting excited for Cheryl's wedding?

I can't believe it is only one week away. There are still things to get done, but we are right on schedule. We leave for San Diego in just 5 days. We will drive there on Thursday morning and then join the rest of our immediate family at the beach that afternoon. On Friday we are all going to Sea World. None of my grandchildren have been there before, except for Milo who went there as an infant. I'm sure he can't remember it. On Saturday, Cheryl and Parker will be sealed together in the San Diego Temple. This week is going to be supurb! I can't wait for it to all unfold.

July's Year of Dates

We have officially started the second half of the year with regard to our year of dates. This is month #7 - July. Just by looking at the outer packaging, we could easily guess what this date was going to be. The baseball was a dead giveaway.

We have a minor-league baseball team here in Lancaster called the Jethawks. We have been to some of their games, but not many. This is what the insert said:

We were toying with the idea of going this Monday (July 4th), but it is almost sold out and our seats would not be great. Because of the wedding and our trip to Canada, July is a very busy month. We will try to fit in a baseball game, but if not, we will be attending a game in August.

GO JETHAWKS!
