Moving In

Due to the sudden passing of an employee at the Stronk family business a couple of weeks ago, Cheryl's family will be moving to Utah. Yay!!! The man who died covered the Utah and some surrounding states area for the business. His unexpected and sad passing opened up a way for Parker to take over the area. I'm just so excited about this! They have been talking about possibly moving to Utah for some time now, but things didn't line up properly and the time was never right. Now, the time is right.

Things are moving so quickly for them to leave California and move to Utah. They want to empty out their home before they put it on the market, so some of Parker's family members (his mom and sister) are in California right now helping Cheryl to sort through things. They will get rid of things they don't want to keep and box up things that will make the move.

Their sweet family will be moving into our basement until they can sell their home and find a home to purchase here in Utah. Sure do wish we had a kitchenette and an exit to the backyard in our basement, but that's not the case. Wishin' ain't gettin'! We will have to work with what we do have. We still have a mini-fridge and microwave down there from when we prepared our meals there during our kitchen remodel.

On January 29th, Alan and I are flying to CA to help with the actual move - meaning we will help Cheryl drive her van (with their three children) plus Parker's truck. With three drivers, the trip should go much smoother, but you never know how things will go when children are involved. Instead of one long day of driving, we plan to break it up into two days. Parker will be driving the moving truck a couple of days after we leave. What a fun job that will be!

I believe that this trip will initially be difficult on the family until they get used to living here. I asked Cheryl what 4-year-old Kessler said when she told him that they were moving to Utah. She said that he burst into tears and said he would miss his friends and his cousins. Fortunately, Kessler makes friends easily. Cheryl has found a pre-school to enroll him in, so he can make new friends.

I know that trading Southern California's mild winters for Utah's cold/snowy winters will be hard on everyone at first. The kids like to play in the snow, but I'm sure they will miss the many parks in their current neighborhood that they can play at all year round. With moves, comes trade-offs. Hopefully, everyone will adapt easily and all will eventually be happy with the move.

After Cheryl's family moves out of California, we will really have no need to return there. That seems kind of odd, but maybe we can go back there on vacation sometime.
