I mentioned in my last post that Cheryl's family was leaving California and moving to Utah. We (Alan and I) flew down last Monday and helped out while the final packing took place. It was pretty much a miracle that we got everything done so we could leave on Wednesday morning at 11:00 to start the two day drive to our home.
This is them standing in front of their home just prior to leaving.
This is Kessler and Wesley making hearts with their hands - I guess to say how much they loved their home and will miss it.
We had a scary incident early on in our travels. I was in the van with Cheryl and the kids. Alan was driving Parker's truck so he missed out on all of the drama. What happened is that two-year-old Wesley, while sitting in her car seat, which faces back, pulled the adult seatbelt up to her with her foot and she started wrapping it around her neck. Cheryl and I didn't know that she was doing that, but thank goodness Kessler was keeping an eye on her and alerted us. Wesley was screaming, trying to free herself from the noose. On Cheryl's cue, I quickly unbuckled my seatbelt and knelt on my seat (forgetting about my still recovering knee) in order to reach Wesley to free her. She had wrapped the belt around her neck three times! It was a very scary moment for us. I can't imagine the sadness that would prevail if serious injuries or death happened to our little Wesley. Later that day, after watching something on her mother's phone, she threw up. I guess she got a bit of motion sickness.
At one point, we needed to stop so Cheryl could nurse Lainey and Alan could catch a catnap. It was my job to let Kessler and Wesley get some of their energy out by running around in an open field by a parking lot. I quickly learned that at my age and still recovering from my knee surgery, I can no longer chase after little children. Wesley could easily outrun me so I had to depend on her following my orders, which didn't always work when I told her to stop. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and it was a blessing for the kids to be able to get out of their car seats for a little while.
Lainey, who is only 4 months old, did a terrific job both days of travel, but especially the 2nd day. There were times when she was crying from hunger or needing a nap. I was so proud of her patience during two days of travel. Kessler was good to help find a pacifier for Lainey whenever needed.
We stayed in St. George the 1st night. The kids had a great time, but it was work for the rest of us. It was a big relief for all of us when we finally pulled up to our house last Thursday.
We are letting Cheryl and Parker use the basement in any way that makes things more comfortable for them during this transition. We hope they can get into a comfortable routine and that they will feel at home as much as possible.
Their house in Ladera Ranch went on the market today. Amazingly, they had at least 8 showings scheduled today and they got an offer from an investor within hours of it going on the market. They will see what other offers come their way and make a decision. We thought it would sell fast, but who knew that it could sell this fast.
