Been there, done that!
Well, three weeks ago I was shocked when our new Bishop came to our home on a Sunday evening to issue me a new calling. He called me to be the YW Pres. for our ward, replacing his wife. Sometimes I see these things coming, but not this time. I was totally blindsided. Of course I accepted the calling, but I've been wondering why the Lord would want someone old enough to be these YW's grandmother in there. I haven't come up with a good answer for that yet. At least my two counselors are young. Although I have been the YW Pres. on the ward and stake level before and have been a counselor in many presidencies on both levels, I'm happy to be able to serve the Lord in that capacity again. We have a very small group of YW, which will make things a little bit difficult, but we will deal with it the best we can. I love the YW organization and know that it truly has power to shape lives and to change lives.

Congrats! I just got released from that calling in January after serving for three years. I can honestly say I miss it. Now I'm the sunbeam teacher and although it's not as rewarding as YW, it is a whole lot less time consuming! Good luck this time around.
I was in YW from the time I was 21 until 29--president in two different wards--and I'm sure you will be a MUCH better president than I was. I had so many of my own worries and concerns with starting a family that there was a lot of stuff I missed and should have paid more attention to. I don't know if it's because I was born with an old soul, but I would much rather hang out with the grandma's in my ward than the people my age. So don't worry about it--they will adore you! What's not to love?
p.s. You need better ward spies if you didn't see it coming! :-)
