Apple Box Oven Cooking

A couple of weeks ago Alan and I attended a Stake demonstration of different ways to cook without power in case of an emergency.  I had seen apple box ovens before, but had never used one.  We were able to make one that day and I decided to use it to cook our dinner tonight.  It is simple.  First, you heat up about 10-15 briquettes.

While the briquettes are heating up, you prepare the food you will be cooking (or it could be prepared prior to this). I decided to try foil dinners.  I used ground turkey for the patties and cut up potatoes and added carrots.  I always like to top it off with a little Cream of Mushroom soup for flavor and moistness.  I didn't have any onion, or I would have added that to my meal (not Alan's).

Fold the foil around the food.  You will need to do this twice to prevent leakage.

This is what the inside of the oven looks like.  You use four soda cans to hold the cookie sheet that the foil dinners are resting on and then put the hot charcoals under the pan.

Then you place the box oven over the meal and use one charcoal briquette to keep the box from laying flat on the ground to allow air to circulate.

My oven got a little hot.  You can see it got up to 450 degrees.

After about 1 hr. of cooking time, the meal was ready to be served.

Independence Day Celebration!

I got tired of basically doing nothing on the 4th of July so this year I suggested to Alan an activity that  I thought we might enjoy, and we did.  It was to attend a rodeo at the A.V. Fairgrounds with fireworks afterwards.  The Fairgrounds is where the City of Lancaster does their fireworks, so it is always a big affair.

The rodeo was just professional bull riding that night, but we enjoyed it a lot.  I was able to get a couple of good videos of the action.  This first one is of a rider who rode the whole 8 seconds (which didn't happen a lot) but then the bull ran into the fence.  You will see what happens next.

This second video is of a rider who didn't last too long, but thank goodness for the "distractor" who led the bull away from the rider at his own peril. (They didn't dress as clowns that night like I've seen in the past)

This is just a taste of the fireworks show we were able to enjoy.  I loved all of the patriotic music that went along with the fireworks.  That music really helped increase my gratitude for our country and the men and women who serve us so faithfully in our armed forces.  We owe them a lot!!!  GOD BLESS THE U.S.A!!!

Wedding Day

On June 18, 2011 Kyle Stott and Emily Crandall became husband and wife, sealed for eternity in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.  It was a beautiful day filled with love, with family, with promise, and with great memories.

This first picture is of the happy couple just exiting the temple.

Their love and joy was evident by all in attendance.

What a cute couple!

Emily and her bridesmaids

Our whole clan. (We are growing, but slowly)

A big thankyou goes out to everyone who attended and helped make the day so special for Kyle, Emily, and our entire family. You are loved!

Time to cut the cake at the reception.

A week after the wedding, an open house was held at the Crandall home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

One week into their marriage.  They still look happy, don't they!

At the Coeur d'Alene Open House

Kyle really wanted Cheryl to be at his wedding so she made that possible by receiving her own endowment in the Draper Temple on June 16th, 2011.  That was a beautiful experience and we thank everyone who supported her by attending that session with her.  Way to go, Cheryl!  We love you.
Such a windy, but very nice evening!
