I have been experiencing a lot of health issues lately as mentioned in past blogs. Recently my issues have mostly been with my back and hips. I have scoliosis of the lower back with arthritis and disc damage, which has led to, as I found out last week, bursitis in both hips. My doctor gave me a shot of cortisone in my worst hip (right into the bursa) and suggested that I return in a week to get one in my other hip. A cortisone shot is not a cure for bursitis - only a temporary aid for the pain. The only way to heal from bursitis is to not do things that will irritate it and hope it heals itself. Standing too long, walking too much, repetitive motions, or sitting in one position too long will prevent healing. This makes the healing process very challenging. How do you not walk, stand, or sit?
I was considering taking a leave of absence from being a temple ordinance work to try to heal from this, but as I prayed about it, I felt that I should just let my shift coordinator know of my health issues to see if my temple schedule could be modified enough to allow me to sit more than stand, walk, or bend. I felt that if I had a more moderate schedule, the Lord would bear me up so I could continue to serve in the temple. Fortunately, my coordinator was very accommodating and asked me if I would like to be the assistant to the initiatory coordinator. This would allow me to do less walking, bending, and standing. I told her I would give it a try, so that is what I did last Wednesday. It was great. I did have to sit a lot, but I could get up and walk around as needed so it was a perfect solution for me. I will probably have this assignment for the next 3-4 months.
Since I received my cortisone shot a week ago and by resting as much as possible, my hips have felt so much better. It is like night and day. I can almost walk without any pain, which I am so thankful for. My back is also improving, so I am doing much better all around. Life is good!

I'm so glad you are doing better. It must have been very frustrating for you. Glad you are able to continue in the temple.
Oh gosh! I feel for you Joan. It's so good that you sought treatment ASAP and that you're back to working. Have you tried massage therapy and the likes? I hope you're doing much better now that it's warmer. All the best!
