The hills are alive...with poppies. The Poppy is California's official flower and during a good year, Lancaster is lucky enough to have hills filled with them this time of year. This was a good year and last Saturday was a perfect day for viewing them. Cheryl was visiting us for the weekend so we decided to head west to view these beautiful wild flowers.
It is rare to see bouquets like these. We only saw about 6 like these and they were all in one general area. They are my favorite!
This was the first area we stopped at. We found better places for pictures later on.
On our way home, we came across a field around 80th West & Ave. L that provided us with a surprise - one batch of yellow poppies among a sea of orange... the only yellow poppies we have ever seen. They were beautiful. Seeing them made me ponder about some of life's lessons, like -- be yourself; dare to be different; you might not always fit in; it's OK to stand out in a crowd; you don't have to be like everyone else; make the best of any situation; you are beautiful just the way you are; grow where you are planted.

"Everyone contributes to the beauty of the whole" comes to mind when I look at the lower picture on the right. What a lovely day! I can't wait until Galen and I are able to enjoy the beauty's of the season!
