"I Believe In God"

When Kyle's family was here visiting last week, Milo and Clara started to explore the house and ended up in the Master Bedroom where they found this ceramic mother quail and her two baby quails.

I told them that I had other ceramic animals so I retrieved them from the dining room and the kids lined them up on my little round table. They had to be very careful moving them around because of the fragile nature of ceramics, and they didn't disappoint me. Of course I had to get a picture of them and how proud they were of their handiwork.

When they were done playing with the animals, Clara saw these three statues sitting on my long dresser.

After looking at them for a minute, she pointed to the tallest one and asked me if that was God. I told her that all three of them were Jesus Christ, who is a God. She said pointedly: "I believe in God."
That caught me by surprise because I don't think they are taught about God in their home. All I could say back was "I do too!" I know that Kyle & Emily would not want me to teach their children about God so I didn't push it. But Clara kept looking at the statues. I pointed to the one on the right where Jesus is holding the little children and I told her that Jesus loves little children, and left it at that.

I believe that children come to this world knowing about God, but that they lose that memory over time. I secretly hope that Clara will never lose her belief in God, for I KNOW that HE lives and is the father of us all. I know that this life is a test to see if we can prove ourselves worthy to return to His presence. I hope everyone in our family can pass that test. It is one big, long earthly test, but it is an open book test. We can rely on others to help us out including our family members, our friends, our leaders and prophets, and especially the scriptures.

As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said:
"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual being having a human experience."

I believe that to be true. I think we would be extremely surprised if we understood who we truly are, what our potential is, and how our Father in Heaven sees us. Some day that will be revealed to us. We have so much potential - even the potential to become like Him. We are all God's in embryo.
