Monday Fun Day

A few weeks ago, my sister Gayle called me to tell me about a ukulele class she was taking at the Senior Center in Midvale. She loves the class because there are other couples from her mission in Hawaii that participate as well. While on her mission to Hawaii, Gayle worked at the Ukulele Store where she not only sold ukuleles, but also taught visitors how to play simple songs. This was a very fun thing for her to do on her mission. Gayle asked me if I would like to join the class. I hesitated a bit because I couldn't remember all the ukulele chords which are very different from guitar chords. However, I thought it would be a fun, and different, thing to do every Monday afternoon, so I went to our Riverton Senior Center to get a membership card and attended my first class six weeks ago.

I use the membership card every week to sign in at the Senior Center. Riverton has a ukulele class as well and it's a lot closer to home, but I prefer attending with Gayle in Midvale.

Our sitting room has become my practice room. I practice almost every day. I'm still in the learning mode and hope to improve each week.

The first day I attended the class, the instructor asked if my ukulele was a concert one, which it was. It is a little bit small for my big hands, so I purchased a Kala tenor ukulele before attending the second class. I really like it. It's so much easier for me to use. Here's a comparison between the two different ukulele sizes. A soprano ukulele is even smaller than the concert one. I used to have a soprano size, but gave it to my granddaughter, Ella, several years ago.

I have found the class very enjoyable. It's especially fun to be able to attend with Gayle. She's much better at the ukulele than I am, but that's ok. She's been attending the class for about 9 months.

I'm learning new things each week, and try to learn even more new things at home. I consider Monday my fun day now because of this class. It gets me out of the house and doing something fun every Monday, and I needed that!
