Just outside Idaho Falls is a little town called Roberts. On our way to Gracier National Park, Ryan met us there and led us to a group of trees where he said he always sees owls. We had good luck finding one. Owls are Ryan's favorite wildlife to photograph. They are hard to spot because they blend in so well with their surroundings. Not a great pic, but here's the owl Ryan pointed out to us.
We continued to travel north and spent the first night in Great Falls. Before going to sleep, I took out my contact lenses and washed my face like I normally do. While drying my face, my right eye started to burn. I had no idea why, but the burning went away pretty quickly. At 1:30 a.m., I woke up and my eye was puffy, weepy, and felt very irritated. Alan was awake, so I told him about my eye and we decided that I should go to the E.R. to get it checked out. Thankfully, one was close to the hotel, which we went to. At that time of day, things were very quiet and we were seen quickly.
After some tests, I was diagnosed with Acute conjunctivitis (pink eye) and was issued an antibiotic (Erythromycin) to be applied to my lower eye lid every 4 waking hours for one week. I was also told not to wear contact lenses or use any eye makeup for a week. That was very difficult for me to do! In fact, I only made it about 5 days before I gave in and wore makeup. I started using contact lenses 1 week later.
The first day of our trip didn't exactly end how I would have liked, but that wasn't going to stop us from continuing on to Glacier and hoping for better times for the next few days.
Before heading to Glacier later that morning, we decided to check out the falls at Great Falls. We were a little disappointed!
