Birthday Balloons

One good thing about the coronavirus (still going on) is that our family seems to reach out more to each other than we did previously. It's pretty easy to do so by using an app called Marco Polo on our phones. We have also done video conferencing on our computers (or phones) with a program called Zoom. It is nice that we can all be isolated in our own homes miles apart and we can still spend some time together as a family.

Last Monday was my birthday and for the third time since isolation began, we all came together to celebrate - first for Eric's birthday, then Cheryl's birthday, and now my birthday.

For fun, I put together a balloon popping game that we could all play together. I've been doing this game as a tradition with my grandchildren for years. I blew up 14 balloons, one for each person in the family (except Alan and I), and inside each balloon was a written challenge. Each balloon represented one letter of the saying
H A P P Y * B I R T H D A Y , which I hung on a string across the fireplace as seen in this picture.

Starting from youngest to oldest, everyone took a turn to choosing a balloon which Alan or I would pop for them. For prize money they had to do whatever was written on the paper inside. It was a lot of fun. Everyone felt like Kessler stole the show with his stair climbing challenge.

It was fun to watch everyone perform their challenge. Nobody got rich, but everyone was a winner.
